Rod Carter hosted this year’s event as The Community Roundtable distributed their annual awards. Rod Carter anchors News Channel 8’s weekend evening newscasts at 6 pm and 11 pm and report general assignment three days a week. He is a proud graduate of Florida A&M University in Tallahassee. Rod is very active in the community as host of hundreds of community events throughout Florida, Alabama, and of course Tampa. He graciously accepted our invitation to be a judge of our biggest event Brandon’s 4th of July Parade, which we have been presenting for over 62 years!
The Community Roundtable has been involved with the race for the title of Honorary Mayor of Brandon for 60 years. To celebrate this milestone, we honored past mayors with a small gift of appreciation for their past fund raising efforts for Brandon charities. As you might imagine, several former mayors have moved from the area or are no longer with us. Fortunately, many joined us to accept the complementary dinner and this small gift, a pin honoring their significant achievement.
Being gregarious folks, after their names were called out, it took little coaxing to get the prior mayors to come to the stage, receive their pin, embrace the microphone and share with the audience some of the highlights of their race. These fine people represent the significant contributions made by the Honorary Mayor of Brandon over the several decades.

The Non-Profit of The Year was awarded to the Family Promise of Hillsborough County. Edwina Reddick is committed to empower homeless families to obtain safe and sustainable housing, help them find employment which gives them lasting independence. But, don’t stop there . . . click here for more
The 2019 Alice B. Tompkins Community Service award was given to Tony Saladino. Awards from the Tampa Sports Club, University of Tampa Alumni Achievement committee, and Who’s Who Among American Teachers only begin to scratch the surface of recognition for him. He was featured in Sports Illustrated’s Hometown Hero and in the Hometown News in Florida Sports Fan magazine. For detail of Tony’s community contributions, click here.
Recognition continues for Saladino, Vodopich and Kanarek when they ride as guests of The Community Roundtable in separate convertibles in the Brandon Fourth of July Parade. The Family Promise of Hillsborough County volunteers have been invited to ride on the Community Roundtable’s float in the parade as well.
